Sean is a forester, forest scientist, and small woodland owner. From the region-wide analysis of fire regimes in California’s Sierra Nevada to managing treatment implementation for a vertically-integrated forest restoration company in Northern Arizona, Sean brings to Resilient Forestry a breadth of knowledge and experience. His bread and butter is multi-scale ecological forest management planning in his home, the Pacific Northwest. Sean earned his PhD in forest ecology from the University of Washington.
Miles has worked as an applied forest ecologist for more than a decade to study and manage the forests of the Pacific Northwest. From beginnings as a wildland firefighter, Miles has experience in leading large field studies, geospatial analysis, and forestry while working with universities, agencies, and private industry. Having lived and worked across Washington, Oregon, and Montana, Miles has an intimate understanding of the relationships between climate, geography, forests, and fire. Miles earned his MS in forest ecology from the University of Washington.
Russell is a forest ecologist with a focus on the ecology of large trees in California redwood and Pacific Northwest forests. He is an expert at accessing the forest canopy using ropes, making precise tree measurements, and managing data for scientific fieldwork. His early career as a guide on river expeditions, including international trips, helped Russell develop a strong sense for team organization and clear communication of complex ideas. Russell earned his PhD in forest ecology from the University of Washington.
Taylor is a forester and ecologist with experience from across the US, including the Rocky Mountains, Adirondacks, and Appalachian regions . She has led field teams for many types of forest surveys and specializes in transforming complex data into understandable and impactful management options. She brings a strong background in silviculture, soil analysis, and forestry operations to Resilient Forestry. Taylor earned her MS in Forest and Natural Resources Management from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
Bryan loves the mountains, especially those covered in lush, green forest and dissected by dendritic streams. His daily efforts involve scaling landscape dynamics data to the spatiotemporal domain through statistical modeling and geoinformatics. The main outputs of Bryan’s activities are computational frameworks and tools for the user-informed, data-driven modeling of environmental phenomena. He holds a BS in forest science and a MS in soil science, which allow him to take a holistic approach to understand processes occurring at the soil-plant-atmosphere interface.
Lauren is an accomplished ecologist with a diverse background in environmental science and research. Originally hailing from Michigan, Lauren pursued her undergraduate studies at Michigan Technological University, where she specialized in Applied Ecology. Driven by a passion for understanding and addressing environmental challenges, Lauren went on to pursue a Master's degree in Biology/Ecosystem Ecology. Outside of her academic pursuits, Lauren enjoys spending her free time engaging in outdoor activities such as rock climbing and hiking. She also has a passion for dance and enjoys the strategic challenges of playing Magic: The Gathering.
After completing his studies in Natural Resource Science at Northland College in Ashland, WI, Sam decided to make the move to the Pacific Northwest. His love of plants, working in the woods, and devotion to the natural world made him an integral part of Resilient Forestry's field crew from the very beginning. In his spare time, Sam enjoys bike riding (N+1), skiiing, and camping. When doing field work, variety is the spice of life and hunger is the spice of food — he has found a way to blend all of his interests seamlessly.
Erica brings a wealth of expertise gained from more than a decade in specialized training positions. Throughout her career, she has successfully overseen projects across various domains, ranging from academia and small businesses to start-ups in both public and private sectors. Erica's capabilities extend to a diverse array of responsibilities, including crafting operational systems, implementing online media strategies, and fostering team cohesion and professional growth. At Resilient Forestry, she adeptly handles administrative tasks and excels in managing public relations, offering invaluable support to her colleagues.
